The Aziza Doll - A Touching Tribute

Many people reached out to our family after Aziza died.  We were overwhelmed by the love that the world had for our little girl.  A while back this demonstration of love was taken to a whole new level when a company approached me with an incredibly touching proposal.

The company, Dolls for Downs, is a small business headed up by a woman named Connie.   Connie had a vision years ago that while certain large doll companies were very successful in marketing dolls that would match the physical characteristics of the little children gifted with them, there seemed to be no such opportunity for children whose physical characteristics may be more unique.  Specifically, children living with the enchanting features of Down Syndrome.

The company has been working years on this project and the final steps of the project completion happened to coincide with Aziza's death. Connie is an avid follower of our blog and she reached out to me with a request.  She wanted to honour my sweet Aziza by releasing a doll under the name "Aziza".  The doll would have long dark brown hair, almond-shaped dark brown eyes, and medium toned skin.  The Aziza doll would be one of 10 dolls being released ( 5 girls, 5 boys).  All of the dolls would have tiny ski-slope noses, single palmer crease, sandal gapped toes, cute curved pinky fingers, and would have their left hands forming the ASL sign for "I love you".  All of the dolls will be constructed of top grade vinyl and will be designed to be played with - just like the other similar dolls that are currently available from other companies.

This was a proposal that I did not at all expect and I wasn't at first sure how to respond to such an overwhelming idea.  After a family discussion, we determined that we would be honoured to have this doll released in memory of our Aziza.

The dolls are currently available for pre-ordering with the anticipated release date being May 2013.  Dolls can be pre-ordered by clicking HERE.

The following photos are NOT of the Aziza doll, but are of the Hannah doll also being released on the same timeframe.  I hope to have photos of the Aziza doll prototype soon.  The Hannah doll has been created in the image of Connie's daughter with short brown hair, fair skin, and almond-shaped hazel eyes.

I would love to get a doll that looks like Mary Catherine for a change. Thank you for letting your beautiful daughter be honored in such a way.
